Community Outreach Programs

Throughout the year, we offer a variety of free events for children to learn about wildlife and nature.

One of the most popular events for children is the "Frog Night with Turtles" Outdoor Classroom held at the Logan Martin Lake Protection Association sponsored Wetlands Boardwalk located in the City of Pell City's Lakeside Park. It is led by Jacksonville State University professor Dr. Grover Brown. The evening's adventure includes a flashlight walk from the pavilion to the wetlands observation deck, with stops along the way to see the turtles Dr. Brown caught earlier in the day. At the deck, the children can look out into the wetlands to watch JSU volunteers catch frogs and bring them back to the deck for some up close observation. This night is an unforgettable evening of amphibian voices of the season where children and guest learn to identify frog songs and get hands-on experience with the slippery creatures. This event is normally held in early summer. So be on the look out for the next one. It will be posted in the EVENTS section of this website.
